Choosing YOUR Business Major

The Monte Ahuja College of Business offers 10 different Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) majors, 2 different Bachelor of Arts (BA) majors and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Health Care Management. With all of these options, it can be difficult to choose.

All three degree types prepare students for careers in business, but have very different entry-level course requirements. Click on the links below to learn more about the requirements and the majors under each degree.

Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA):

In general, the BBA is one of the most common degrees in business education. It prepares students for managerial positions, strengthens leadership, communication and provides a broad business education across all business disciplines and specialized business knowledge offered by selecting a major. Students can select from 10 different majors.

Required entry-level course requirements for all BBA Degree Programs are:

Bachelor of Science (BS):

Students who choose a BS in a business discipline are prepared for a future career in the business world and also acquire more specific, technical knowledge within a field of study. The Monte Ahuja College of Business currently offers just 1 Major - the Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration which is perfect for students seeking business roles within the health care industry. Students will learn not only about finance, marketing, information systems and law - but the nuances of those areas within the health care industry. The program also provides students to pursue a concentration such as health care informatics or from other undergraduate minors from any discipline offered at CSU.

Required entry-level course requirements for the Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management are:

  3. STA 147 Statistical Concepts with Applications or BUS 201 Applied Business Statistics
  4. HCA 150 Introduction to Healthcare Management
  5. OSM 202 Introduction to Business Analytics
  6. ACT 221 Introductory Accounting I
  7. BUS 151 The World of Business
  8. ECN 201 Macroeconomics
  9. HSC 203 Medical Terminology

Bachelor of Arts (BA):

Students who choose a BA in a business discipline are prepared for a future career in the business world and benefit from the opportunity to develop a broader set of skills beyond business courses. Students can choose to supplement their business education with courses from psychology, communication, foreign language, art, science or other courses offered at CSU.

Bachelor of Arts - Business Studies Major

In particular, the BA of Business Studies is ideal for working professionals, transfer students and those who already have in-depth professional experience. 

Students must complete the following courses before declaring the Bachelor of Arts Business Studies. Until successful completion, students will be considered re-Bachelor of Arts Business Studies Majors. The required entry-level courses are:

  1. ENG 100/101 College Writing I
  2. ENG 102 College Writing II
  3. BSM 140 Business Studies Major Experience
  4. ACT 221 Introductory Accounting I
  5. ECN 202 Microeconomics
  6. IST 203 Software Tools for Personal Productivity
  7. One college-level math course to satisfy the CSU Math/Quantitiative literacy requirement.


Bachelor of Arts - Economics Major

Students must complete the following courses before declaring the Bachelor of Arts Economics. Until successful completion, students will be considered re-Bachelor of Arts Economics Majors. The required entry-level courses are:

  3. MTH 148 Math for Business Majors I
  4. MTH 149 Mathematics for Business Majors
