MBA FAQ For Fall 2022

Questions:

Answers:

Why is the MBA curriculum changing?

Changes in the business environment now require graduate business students to have skills in and exposure to disciplines that are not now formally part of our existing program. Today’s business professionals need knowledge in analytics, supply-chain management, ethics, and leadership.

When will this change happen?

The new MBA curriculum will be effective starting Fall Semester 2022.

How does this change affect current MBA students?

Current MBA students can choose to follow the new curriculum or stay with the old curriculum.

Will students need to complete basic business knowledge courses or other prerequisites before taking core courses?

Students with a Bachelor’s degree in Business will not need to complete basic business knowledge or prerequisites.  Students with degrees in other disciplines – such as science, engineering, communication, etc. – will take 10 credits in Accounting, Finance, Marketing, and Analytics.

Does the new MBA require fewer hours to complete?

Yes! The MBA core comprises 30 credit hours. Students without a Bachelor’s degree in Business will complete 10 credits of preparatory courses plus 30 credits of core courses.

Are specializations offered?

Yes. Students may elect to complete an additional 9 credit hours in a specialization:

  • Accounting and Taxation
  • Advertising and Analytics
  • Digital Marketing
  • Economic Forecasting
  • Governance, Risk Mangement and Compliance
  • Information Systems
  • Labor Relations
  • Marketing Analytics
  • Organizational Change
  • Operations and Supply Chain Management

Are the admission requirements changing also?

Yes. The GRE or GMAT will not be required for applicants with a 2.75 undergraduate grade point average or higher.

How can I change from the old MBA to the new program?

Send an email to gradbusinessadvising@csuohio.edu from your CSU email address and make the request.  Please include your CSU ID number.  We will ask the Registrar to make the change and update your degree audit.

Can I meet with an advisor before I decide?

Yes.  Make an appointment with a graduate advisor by using the Online Self Scheduling Calendar or call the COB Student Services Front Desk at 216-687-3729.  The front desk is staffed from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. M-F.  NOTE:  Front desk staff cannot answer academic advising or program questions.

What if I’ve already taken some MBA courses in Level II and Level III?  Will I have to re-take anything in switching to the new program?

No.  We will make every effort to appropriately apply courses in the old program to the new program.  Some courses will be discontinued and students will not be disadvantaged because they did not take them, even if they were part of the Level II Business Foundation Courses.  Our graduate advisors can help you make the decision to switch or not.

Will this change affect my official transcript or diploma?

No.  The only place you will see a change is in your degree audit.  Your degree will be posted to your official transcript when it is complete as “Master of Business Administration” and the date awarded.  Likewise, your diploma will show your degree as “Master of Business Administration” and the date.
