Business Administration

Business managers formulate the policies and direct the operations of corporations, nonprofit institutions, and government agencies. General managers and top executives hold over three million jobs in the U.S. They are found in every industry, but wholesale and retail trade, and service industries employ over six out of ten.

Employment of general managers and top executives is expected to grow about as fast as average for all occupations through the year 2005 as new companies start up and established companies seek managers who can help them maintain a competitive edge in domestic and world markets. Since general business managers plan, organize, direct, control, and coordinate the operations of an organization and its major departments or programs, they are found in nearly all work settings. Business Economics

Economics prepares students for interesting and financially rewarding careers in private business, consulting, government, financial service institutions and medicine. Undergraduate economics majors are also well represented in many graduate programs including MBA and MPA programs, and law schools.

The Economics program at Cleveland State University is similar to programs at other universities throughout the United States by teaching students "the economic way of thinking." Finance

The Finance curriculum at Cleveland State University introduces business students to theories, concepts, practices, and advances in financial analysis and financial management. Topics covered include risk estimation and solutions, efficient management of funds, selection of alternative sources of financing, the financial adaptation of the firm and the individual investor to a dynamic economic and political environment, the fundamental and technical valuation of various types of assets, and the determination of appropriate investment policies for the firm and the individual within the U.S. as well as the international environment. Information Systems

The Information Systems major (IS) within the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program prepares students for careers in information systems by focusing on the use of current information technology within the context of an organization. Information Systems as an academic discipline encompasses two broad areas: Acquisition, deployment and management of Information Technology (IT) resources and services; and development of IS infrastructure to support the organization's processes.

An Information Systems major takes courses in statistics, management science, production/operations management, and information systems. This unique mix of education combines quantitative methods and analytical approaches to solving problems in all area of business utilizing current technology.
