Summer Salem is the Rotary Club of Cleveland's Excellence honoree in Health Care Management for 2024. Summer was born in Westlake, Ohio, and graduated from Westlake High School in 2021. Summer began taking college courses in high school, which will allow her to graduate from Cleveland State University in three years. She plans to go straight into a master’s program in Health Care Management.

Summer says she wanted to stay close to home for college, and CSU was always a top choice. She actually got to know the school when she used to visit the campus when her sister was a CSU student about 10 years ago. Summer says she thought it was cool to be at such a big school surrounded by so many people.

When she started college, Summer got a job at a boutique, where she was the sales manager up until this year. She now has an internship as an administrative assistant at an urgent care facility. When she can, she also volunteers at local nursing homes.  Summer says, “I have always had a connection towards the elderly, and love to ‘hang-out’ with them, it is such an amazing experience. I have grown to love and I genuinely learn so much about life doing so.”

An interesting fact about Summer is that she and a friend have a small business selling chamoy snacks. She says they are constantly doing pop-up events and bazaars which has been a fun experience.

Summer is thankful and pleased to have been able to attend CSU, where she had the chance to learn from amazing professors and to meet so many interesting people from all over the world. Having her twin brother at CSU was also a huge blessing.
