Points of Pride

Alex Griesmer

Alex GriesmerAlex knew he wanted to be a business major prior to attending Cleveland State. The Finance Major and Economics Minor enjoyed learning about the different career paths offered in Finance including Real Estate and Investing.

Alex chose Cleveland State because he has always loved the city of Cleveland and everything it has to offer. He offers this advice for incoming freshmen: “Step out of your comfort zone and do not be afraid to ask for resources and ask for help,” he said. “Living on campus has helped me a lot because I’ve gone to tutoring, professors’ office hours, events and the Office of Career Development and Exploration. My two internships and my full-time position are the result of going to internship fairs here.”

“The College of Business and the relationships with businesses downtown are unique,” he added. “Take advantage of the speakers and events they make available to you.”

Alex says that living on campus would not have been an option had it not been for the Glasscock Scholarship and the generosity of the Glasscock family. “We talk a lot on the phone,” Alex added. “Their support has meant the world to me and I would not be where I am today if it were not for their generosity.”

Alex particularly enjoyed Advanced Investments, taught by Dr. Umut Celiker and Business Analytics with Dr. Michael Polomsky. “Dr. Celiker truly cared about all of the students in the class and it was great to have a professor like him,” he added.

While at CSU Alex was in the Finance Management Association (he was the Vice President for his last year) and the National Society of Leadership and Success. He also had two internships. The first was with GE Lighting in an accounting role under one of their controllers and the second internship was with KeyBank in consumer lending under a lead business analyst.

As a result of his internship at Key, Alex was accepted into the nine-month rotation program in Risk Management. He started on July 8th.
