2026 Rotary Awards for Excellence
The Rotary Club of Cleveland proudly recognizes outstanding students from the Monte Ahuja College of Business with the 2026 Rotary Awards for Excellence. These awards celebrate academic achievement, leadership, and commitment to professional growth across each business discipline.
A Tradition of Excellence
For more than four decades, the Rotary Awards for Excellence have recognized the Monte Ahuja College of Business’s most outstanding students—thanks in large part to the dedication of Professor Emeritus Ed Thomas.
A member of the Cleveland State University community for more than 50 years, including 35 years as a full-time faculty member, Dr. Thomas has coordinated the Awards for Excellence program for approximately 40 years.
“It is very gratifying to be able to put a spotlight on our ‘best and brightest’ each year,” said Thomas. “It makes me especially happy to hear my fellow Rotarians and CSU colleagues say it is one of their favorite programs of the year.”
His connection to both institutions runs deep. As a longtime member of the Rotary Club of Cleveland, Thomas has embraced its guiding principle of Service Above Self—a value he has carried throughout his career at CSU and beyond.
“CSU gave me the opportunity to help students, both in the classroom and in administrative roles,” he shared. “Rotary has given me the opportunity to practice service locally, regionally, and internationally. I am extremely grateful to both organizations.”
The lasting impact of the program is reflected in stories like that of Jerry Jarzabek, a CSU marketing graduate and past president of the Rotary Club of Cleveland.
Recognized in 1993 with an Award for Excellence for Service to the College, Jarzabek’s career began with a connection made at the awards luncheon—leading to his first role in the investment field. Today, he serves as Director of the BCJC Group at Robert W. Baird and is a member of the CSU Foundation Board.
His journey reflects the spirit of the program and Rotary’s enduring motto: Service Above Self.
