Shane McGuckin

Shane McGuckin, Spring 2018Shane McGuckin is the Spring 2018 Semester the Monte Ahuja College of Business nominee for University valedictorian, recipient of the Rotary Award for Excellence in Accounting, is graduating with a perfect 4.0 GPA and has secured a full-time position at Progressive Insurance.

Originally from Norwalk, Ohio, Shane began his career at Cleveland State University in the Fall of 2013. Since then, he has earned two minors (one in Finance and one in Management and Labor Relations), worked in the Undergraduate Advising Office within the College of Business as a Student Service Specialist and held a number of internships.

He is the recipient of the 2017 Beta Gamma Sigma Scholarship and also the Monte and Usha Ahuja Endowment Fund Scholarship.

Shane McGuckin, Rotary Accounting HonoreeHe interned first at Payne Nickles & Company and then in Spring 2016, Shane was awarded the MOCA Finance Fellowship.

"The news of Shane's MOCA Fellowship was bittersweet," said Anne Nelson, Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Programs and Student Services. "Shane is one of our most talented student workers in our office. He is always professional and helpful to the students, faculty and staff who frequent the office."

"Shane was the perfect candidate,"added Professor Roger Klee. "He's got a great GPA and wants to work in corporate finance so the MOCA fellowship will prepare him for the next step in his career."

After his MOCA fellowship, Shane interned at Progressive Insurance from May 2017 to August 2017. As a result of the internship and his experience, he has accepted a full-time position in their rotational Accounting program that will begin in June 2018. Throughout his time at Cleveland State University, Shane has also been a member of a number of student organizations including the Freshman-Sophomore Business Association, the Accounting Association, the Institute of Management Accountants and Beta Gamma Sigma.

About the MOCA Fellowship:

In 2013, the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) received a grant through the Ohio Department of Education to launch a Fellowship Program in cooperation with Cleveland State University (CSU). Working with the CSU Career Center and the Monte Ahuja School of Business, MOCA connected the classroom to the workplace through experiential learning. Outstanding CSU students were selected to serve as part-time junior staff members in the innovative MOCA­ CSU Fellowship Program. Fellows work 20 hours per week In a flexible schedule structured to meet their employment and education situation. Each Fellow was provided a generous stipend for the 12 month term.
