Points of Pride

Shahmat Nameen

Shahmat NameenShahmat Zaman Nameen is the Rotary Club of Cleveland's Excellence in Accounting honoree for 2022. Shahmat is a senior, international student who travelled to the United States from Bangladesh three years ago. Shahmat describes her time in the U.S. as "truly life-altering". Shahmat was born in Bangladesh (a country about the size of the state of Ohio) and attended one of the leading English medium schools in the country, the Aga Khan School, Dhaka.

From high school, Shahmat had a strong passion and fascination with public accounting. She thought that working in one of the "Big Four" was an improbable dream. Never did she think that she would secure a full-time position in the largest public accounting firm in the world, a year before graduation! Shahmat will begin working as a Tax Consultant at Deloitte in Summer of 2022 and sit for her CPA exams. She is currently  working as an Accounting Intern at a local consultancy firm, CLE Consulting. She is also the Student Ambassador for the Ohio Society of CPAs, which is something she takes a lot of pride in.

Shahmat is inspired daily by her mother who has always been her role model and taught her to be a strong, self-sufficient woman. Coming from a country where women’s rights are still far behind the Western world, Shahmat wants to start her own non-profit that will fight for better working conditions in garment factories, which have a predominantly female work force.

In her free time, Shahmat likes to travel, read crime and mystery fiction and play video games.
