Hello, my name is David Kubancik and I am a Senior here at Cleveland State University majoring in Accounting. I’m currently doing a co-op with the Sherwin-Williams Company in their Performance Coatings Group. In my division, we are responsible for our business that focuses on product finishes and coatings. This can be anything from coatings for airplanes, bridges, automobiles, even cans of Coca-Cola.
In my role, I perform bank reconciliations for our accounts used by our many large warehouses and distribution centers rather than our traditional retail branches. We have a rebate program for these branches as well that requires a lot of manual transactions, namely transferring and retiring fixed assets within the company. I also am beginning to familiarize myself with our freight invoices and our systems centered around those transactions.
This position has been beneficial to me because it has helped acclimate me to a business environment while also providing me with transferrable skills. I’ve become comfortable with different software programs and had a front-row seat to how a major Fortune 500 company operates. Ultimately, I feel this experience has given me ample opportunity to learn, grow and succeed and I couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunity Sherwin-Williams has given me.
