Ava Carter began her six-month deployment to Kuwait as part of the American Red Cross team on Monday, March 28th. "I think it will help me have more empathy ... and it will flesh out how I understand my role in service to the Armed Forces," she said.

Ava began her career at the Red Cross in 2005, in its biomedical division. She has held a variety of positions in the corporate world, but then returned to the Red Cross in March of 2015. Each day, the Red Cross facilitates emergency communication for approximately 1,000 military families, notifying deployed armed service members of births, illnesses or deaths.

Ava personally knows the importance of the Red Cross' role. When her mother was dying of cancer, the Red Cross facilitated a leave of absence for her sister who at the time was deployed overseas.

Ava is an MBA alumna of Cleveland State University and former Graduate Assistant in the Professional Development Center at the Monte Ahuja College of Business. As a graduate assistant, she reviewed written materials for consistency of language, tone/voice and general readability in addition to organizing and participating in the Global Business Center's GlobalTarget program and Center for Sustainable Business Practices' CRT (Corporate Roundtable) events.
