Activist Investing

In the past two decades, activist investing has become a non-negligible market force. While some argue activist investors destroy long-term value for short-term gain, others believe they create value for firms and are an important form of external governance. We will speak with experts from different backgrounds to share their views.

Tom ShohfiAbout Our Speaker: Tom Shohfi is a financial economist at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s Division of Economic and Risk Analysis. Prior his role at the SEC, he was an assistant professor of accounting and finance at the Lally School of Management and Technology at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. His research has been published in top Accounting and Finance journals and focuses on fraud, investor behavior, disclosure and capital markets. Originally from Long Island, New York, Mr. Shohfi is a graduate of the University Pittsburgh, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and New York University. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst and Financial Risk Manager designations.
