Dr. Benjamin HoffmanWhen we think of environmental, social and governance (ESG), we typically think of a set of standards for a company’s behavior. In this installment of our Cornerstone Speaker Series we will speak with three experts who are actively engaged in evaluating ESG for the organizations that they serve.

Moderated by Dr. Benjamin Hoffman.

Kristina Beifus

Kristina Beifus is the Senior Manager of Global Compliance and Sustainability at American Greetings Corporation. Working to align global compliance schemes across multiple brands and product lines internationally in addition to her role leading the development and execution of American Greeting’s sustainability program. After spending over a decade working in trade, medical device, and consumer product compliance for several multi-national organizations, Kristina has developed a niche in the field of global regulatory compliance, sustainability, and risk mitigation.

Kristina holds a BS in Economics from John Carrol University and a Master of Legal Studies from West Virginia University. Kristina is also a Licensed Customs Broker.

Jack Matejka

Jack Matejka recently retired from Eaton in October 2021.  He had been the Senior Vice President, Internal Audit for Eaton, a power management company since 2010. Matejka was the Chief Audit Executive for the company, with responsibility for auditing the company’s internal control systems and directing the company’s Internal Control Program Office. In 2000, Matejka was appointed director-IT security for the company. Prior to that, Matejka served as manager-internal audit. Before joining Eaton in January 1989, Matejka held management positions in auditing and IT security with Diamond Shamrock, an oil and gas company, and the audit firm of Deloitte, Haskins & Sells.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and a Bachelor of Science degree in Management from the University of Dayton, and a Master of Business Administration from Cleveland State University. Matejka also recently retired from the board of the Cleveland State University Foundation and had chaired of the Foundation’s audit committee.

William Vogelgsang

William W. Vogelgesang is a co-founder of EPOCH Pi, an investment banking company serving purpose-based or impact companies—businesses that exist to provide financial as well as a social returns while endeavoring to creating value for all stakeholders.  He has experience in a broad array of businesses as well as all areas of capital formation and realization. Bill spent 14 years at Candlewood Partners, a middle market investment bank, and South Franklin Street Partners, its private equity affiliate, where he was a co-founder.  Prior to that, he worked for seven years as a Managing Director and Principal of Brown, Gibbons, Lang & Company. He served as Chairman of BGL's Management Committee and was active in corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, and restructurings.  Prior to that, Bill spent three years as a Principal and the Chief Financial Officer of a hazardous waste recovery and recycling company.  Bill has served on many corporate boards and is an advisor to Evergreen Cooperative’s Fund for Employee Ownership and Chairman and Co-Founder of Conscious Capitalism of Northeastern Ohio.
