The FAQ below provides a clear overview of what professional development courses are, who can take them, how to enroll, and what to expect. 


What is a professional development course?

Professional development courses are non‑credit courses that expand your knowledge in a specific subject area. They can help you strengthen your résumé, renew a license, advance in your job, increase your marketability, prepare for certification exams, or simply learn something new. These courses do not apply toward a degree.


Why should I take a professional development course?

Our professional development courses are designed to increase your skill level, expertise, and marketability. They can help you prepare for industry‑recognized certifications, support career advancement, or explore a potential career change. All courses feature the most current and relevant subject matter available.


Who can participate in professional development courses?

Courses are open‑enrollment and available to anyone. Some classes may require or recommend prerequisites, so please review the course description before registering. You are welcome to reach out with questions if you're unsure about eligibility or requirements.


Can I apply this training toward my degree?

No. Professional development courses are non‑credit and do not count toward degree requirements.


How do I enroll in courses?

You may register online or by phone. We recommend enrolling at least seven (7) business days before the course begins to ensure materials are ready for the first session. Select your desired course for detailed enrollment instructions.


How do I get more information on a course?

What if the class I want is not listed?

Contact us at 216‑687‑6957 or prodev.business@csuohio.edu to let us know what you're looking for so we can assist you.


When is my payment due?

All tuition must be paid in full before the first day of class. Payments can be made during registration or by calling 216‑687‑6957.


What forms of payment do you accept?

  • Credit Card
  • Company Purchase Order
  • Staff Development (for eligible CSU faculty & staff; forms must be submitted to prodev.business@csuohio.edu)

Can my company pay for my class?

Yes. We can invoice your company or accept payment by company credit card. Payment must be received before the first class session.
For corporate custom training, 50% is due upfront with the remainder due upon completion.


Can I pay by installments?

Yes—however, the balance must be paid in full before the first class. To arrange installments, call 216‑687‑6957.


Is financial aid available?

No federal financial aid is available. However, scholarship resources may be found online, and many employers offer tuition assistance. Check with your Human Resources office.


Can I use FAFSA funds for a professional development course?

No. FAFSA may only be used for degree‑seeking (credit‑bearing) coursework.


What is open enrollment?

Open enrollment means anyone may register; no special qualifications are required.


Do these courses offer continuing education units (CEUs)?

Yes. Professional development courses offer CEUs, but they do not offer academic credit.


What do I receive upon completion?

  • Online Skill‑Building Courses: Optional digital Certificate of Completion
  • In‑Person Skill‑Building Courses: Certificate of Completion emailed after finishing
  • Online & In‑Person Career Training Courses: Certificate of Completion emailed after finishing

What is the role of the Centers for Outreach and Engagement?

The Centers support practitioner‑focused business programs that address current and future workforce needs. They partner with businesses, government agencies, and academic institutions to deliver courses, seminars, research, and other outreach initiatives. Learn more through the provided program link.


Is there a registration deadline?

Yes. Most courses close registration seven (7) business days before the start date. Early registration is recommended to ensure your seat and access to course materials.


When are classes cancelled?

Courses that do not meet minimum enrollment five (5) business days before the start date may be rescheduled or cancelled.


If a course is cancelled, will I receive a refund?

Yes. If a class is cancelled or rescheduled to a date you cannot attend, you will receive a full refund.


What is your refund policy?

  • In‑Person courses: A refund is available if written notice is received at least 10 business days before the first class.
  • Online courses: Refund policies vary; see each course description for details.
    Staff Development benefits follow the same cancellation policy.

Are there any discounts?

Yes—discounts are available for CSU alumni, active‑duty service members, and veterans for in‑person courses.
