Program Description

Empower your leadership skills with a comprehensive education in the fundamental principles of human resources and labor relations. With a focus on understanding human resource data, political and legal environments, and interdisciplinary perspectives, you'll gain valuable insights into managing human resources effectively.  


Admissions Process

Applicants for the program must fulfill the requirements of both the Graduate College and the Monte Ahuja College of Business.

The MHRM program consists of a minimum of thirty-three semester hours beyond the baccalaureate degree. The program is delivered entirely online to accommodate all students, including those who are currently working. While a majority of enrollees are part-time students, the program also enrolls many full-time students. Full-time students usually take three semesters to complete the degree.

The program is divided into four components:

Students select an additional nine credit hours of 500-/600-level MGT courses to complete the requirements for the degree. Students may also take courses outside of the department, but must be chosen with prior consent of the student’s advisor.

Human Resource Professional Credentials


All students admitted into the MHRM program will be required to take either the HRCI or the SHRM credentialing examinations. This will be taken in their last semester of study and is paid for by the college. Students documenting current PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification may have this requirement waived.

Internships


Internships are available to students to provide an opportunity to gain practical experience in human resources or labor relations.

  • Talent Acquisition Specialist – Managing recruitment strategies, candidate sourcing, interviewing, and workforce planning to attract top talent.
  • Employee Relations Specialist – Resolving workplace conflicts, supporting employee engagement, and ensuring positive labor-management relationships.
  • Compensation and Benefits Manager – Designing competitive salary structures, benefits programs, and reward systems to enhance employee satisfaction and retention.
  • Training and Development Manager – Creating professional development initiatives, leadership training, and workforce learning programs.
  • Labor Relations Specialist – Supporting collective bargaining processes, contract negotiations, and compliance with labor laws and regulations.
  • Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) Analyst – Managing HR technologies, employee data systems, and workforce analytics to improve organizational decision-making.

    Through its fully online and flexible format, the MHRM program prepares students with practical skills in analytics, leadership, labor relations, and organizational strategy while supporting career advancement opportunities across industries. Internships and professional credentialing opportunities, including SHRM and HRCI certification preparation, further enhance graduates’ professional readiness.
