Healthcare Informatics, Graduate Certificate

Certificate Description

Learn to navigate the rapidly evolving field of healthcare informatics, including system development, data analysis, project management, statistics and healthcare organization. The certificate program consists of 18 credit hours.


Admissions Process

Applicants for the program must fulfill the requirements of both the Graduate College and the Monte Ahuja College of Business.

This certificate program complements the knowledge-base of a degree seeking graduate student already enrolled in a program such as Computer Science, Health Science, Healthcare Management, and Social Science, including Psychology and other related areas.

At least 18 credit hours from courses listed below are required for the completion of the certificate. Based on the student’s background, a minimum of two courses from each of the listed areas must be chosen. However, this restriction can be relaxed based on the student’s background and the concurrence of the program advisory group. Consult the Department of Information Systems for the procedure.

A Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Informatics equips students with the technical, analytical, and healthcare management skills needed to improve the organization, analysis, and use of healthcare information. By combining knowledge in information systems, statistics, healthcare management, and data analysis, graduates are prepared for a variety of rapidly growing roles in healthcare organizations, biotechnology companies, and research institutions, including:

  • Healthcare Informatics Specialist – Managing and analyzing healthcare data to improve patient care, operational efficiency, and clinical decision-making.
  • Clinical Data Analyst – Interpreting healthcare and patient outcome data to support evidence-based practices and healthcare improvements.
  • Electronic Medical Records (EMR) Specialist – Implementing, managing, and optimizing electronic health record systems within healthcare organizations.
  • Health Information Systems Analyst – Designing and improving information systems that support healthcare operations and patient services.
  • Healthcare Data Consultant – Advising healthcare organizations on data management strategies, analytics, and technology integration.
  • Bioinformatics Analyst – Applying computational and statistical methods to biological and healthcare data for research and innovation.
