MakerGear Founder and CEO Rick Pollack is a serial entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience in software development and computer science. Among Pollack’s ventures have been a CRM software company that was acquired in 2000, a gaming device company dedicated to connecting families at long distances and a stint at a crowdsourcing venture that pioneered the use of open source technologies to spur innovation.
Pollack founded MakerGear in his garage in 2009 when he began prototyping extruders and other replacement parts for 3D printers. Over the past 10 years he built MakerGear into an award-winning manufacturer of industrial-grade 3D printers that are used around the world.
While MakerGear printers can be found in all 50 states and more than 75 countries, Pollack’s commitment to local manufacturing has kept the company’s headquarters and production facilities in Beachwood, Ohio. Many of MakerGear’s components are made within a 30-minute drive of Cleveland, and the company has brought tens of millions of dollars into the community through the extensive use of a local supply chain.
