The Master of Arts in Economics develops economists who can meet the demand of the private sector, non-profit sector, financial institutions and government organizations they serve. Graduates of the program are well trained in the tools of economic analysis and measurement. The program stresses a strong foundation in standard economic theory, applied econometric methods and research.
The Master of Arts in Economics carries STEM designation. Students who complete the program are well prepared for further graduate study in economics at the Ph.D. level or are interested exclusively in earning their degree to advance in their careers.

Admission Requirements:
Applicants must meet the admission requirements for the College of Graduate Studies, as well as additional requirements including a bachelor's degree with at least a 2.75 grade point average, completion of intermediate Microeconomics, Intermediate Macroeconomics, Calculus and Statistics. International applicants must provide official TOEFL and GRE (general) test scores received directly from ETS. Students are advised to begin the program in the Fall semester. (International students are only admitted to begin in the Fall semester. The M.A. in Economics carries STEM designation.)

Curriculum/Coursework:
The MA in Economics consists of a minimum of thirty semester hours in four areas and holds STEM designation.
Required Mathematical Economics and Econometrics Courses: (15 credit hours)
These courses help students develop mathematical skills, statistical and econometrics skills which can be applied in problem solving.

Financial Aid:
Information about Financial Aid can be found here. Financial aid in the form of a Graduate Assistantship (GA) may be available to a limited number of qualified students. Assistantships provide a stipend plus full or partial tuition support. Learn more here. Tuition scholarships may also available on a limited basis. Two letters of recommendation are required. Applications for students seeking a graduate assistantship must be completed by May 1st.
Job Placement:
The University provides job placement services through its Office of Career Development and Exploration. The department will assist students who are near completion or have completed their M.A. program in their search for suitable employment.
